Guide
Eight steps from idea to first sale — and how to launch without buying stock you can't sell.
Start with who will buy, not what you will make: a community, a style, a sport, a city scene, an audience you already have online. A clothing brand with a clear buyer sells faster than a general one, and tells you what to design.
Launch with a few strong pieces — usually a tee, an oversized tee or a hoodie. Prepare print-ready artwork (high-resolution files, correct colours) and decide fabric and GSM for each. Fewer designs means smaller first orders and faster lessons.
Never go to production on photos. Order one sample of each design and check the print, fabric weight, stitching, fit and how it survives a wash. Fix anything now — a correction costs one sample, not a whole run.
Print on demand prints each piece only after a customer orders — no stock, no minimum, highest per-piece cost. White label puts your brand on a proven product we already make — no minimum, lower cost, fast. Private label (custom manufacturing) develops the product itself for you — your pattern, fabric and fit, made only for your brand. Most brands go in that order as sales grow.
Set up your business entity and get GST registration if you need it to sell online (most marketplace sellers do — check with a CA). File a trademark application for your brand name early, before you print it on stock.
Neck labels, hang tags, branded mailers and a thank-you insert are what make a printed tee feel like a brand. Every white label, private label and print-on-demand order we produce ships with your branding and no supplier identity.
Sell through Shopify or WooCommerce, an Instagram storefront, or marketplaces. Price from the per-piece cost up: product + printing + packaging + shipping + payment fees + returns, then your margin on top. Know that number before launch day.
Launch to your audience, watch which designs and sizes move, and reorder only those. Move proven sellers from print on demand to a white label run for a lower per-piece cost, and develop private label pieces once you know what your buyers want.
Frequently asked
Real questions from D2C founders, brand managers, and agency producers.
The main costs are design and samples, the first production run, branding and packaging (labels, tags, mailers), and your online store and marketing. The first run is the biggest — it scales with quantity, fabric and how custom the product is. To put the least money at risk, launch on print on demand (no stock), move proven designs to white label, and commission private label once you know what sells. Every quote lists the per-piece price and sample costs up front.
Yes. With print on demand, each piece is printed only after a customer orders it and shipped in your branding, so you hold no stock and have no minimum order. The trade-off is a higher per-piece price than a bulk run — which is why brands usually move their best sellers to white label once demand is proven.
A standard apparel PR kit combines a hero piece (French Terry 220 GSM oversized tee with full-front DTF), a lifestyle piece (cotton 3-thread fleece pullover hoodie), and an iconic piece for flagship tiers (dual-tone varsity jacket). Branded packaging (rigid box or thick-gauge poly mailer), personalised thank-you card, name on inside collar. We handle full kit assembly and dropship to journalist / influencer addresses across India. Per-kit cost confirmed at quote stage based on tier and inclusions.
MOQs for PR kits scale by kit complexity — number of pieces, packaging tier, and whether apparel is included. Standard apparel-led kits (one hero tee or hoodie, branded poly-mailer or rigid box, thank-you card) can run from as low as 50 units for simple configurations. Multi-piece kits with custom-developed packaging, woven labels, and bespoke inserts scale higher. Specific MOQs confirmed at quote stage — we don't impose blanket floors on brand accounts.
Yes. Journalist and influencer address lists are handled by us at dispatch — each parcel ships individually to the recipient's address with your branded packaging and inserts, no Merchland identity visible anywhere. Pan-India dispatch covers all 28 states and 8 union territories; worldwide shipping via DHL, FedEx, and Aramex for international press lists. Address data shared via a structured sheet at the dispatch stage.
You provide brand artwork and product specs; our vetted vendor partners produce under your label with custom neck tags, hang tags, and packaging — no Merchland branding visible. White-label runs on our stock-fabric library (standard cotton, polycotton, French Terry, fleece grades) with MOQs scaling by design complexity and non-standard sizes. Brands needing custom-developed fabrics or unique patterns route through our Custom Manufacturing service for fabric development, pattern engineering, and concept-to-creation work. We sign exclusive-supply NDAs for brands building owned production lines, and run several PR kit and private-label arrangements simultaneously. Per-SKU MOQs and pricing confirmed at quote stage.
Yes — we work with several agencies running campaigns for brand clients. Each client gets a separate quote, separate invoicing, separate dispatch labelling. Agencies can negotiate volume-pricing tiers across their full client portfolio.
Yes — and that's the most common growth path on this page. A brand typically starts with a 50–100 unit PR drop or campaign kit, validates the design and fabric in market, then scales to a white-label apparel line or bulk production run through the same coordinator with the same vendor network. No fresh onboarding, no new setup costs for locked patterns. The economics compound after the first run.

PR kit today. White-label apparel line in 90 days. Both run through the same coordinated vendor partner network, with the same QA pass. Send a 50-unit influencer drop to journalists this week. Plan a 5,000-unit Diwali launch with custom-developed fabric. Add a private-label collection that ships to your D2C store year-round. Same brand, same quality, same paperwork.
